There's something about crossing water that the body understands before the mind catches up. The Horseshoe Bay to Langdale ferry takes 45 minutes — enough time to watch the mountains move past, feel the sea air, and arrive somewhere genuinely different.
Most guests report that the decompression starts on the boat. Not at Villa Sol. On the boat. By the time you pull into the drive and see the ocean through the trees, something has already shifted.
The ferry crossing is where the city stops following you.
Ferry Terminal
Horseshoe Bay Terminal
6750 Keith Road, West Vancouver. Arrive 30–45 minutes before departure — especially on weekends and summer months. BC Ferries recommends booking your vehicle reservation in advance.
Crossing Duration
45 minutes
Horseshoe Bay to Langdale. Walk on or drive on. The upper deck has outdoor seating — recommended in good weather. The cafeteria and coffee are on board.

Recommended for vehicles
Book at bcferries com Walk-on passengers do not need reservations. Vehicle reservations are strongly recommended for summer weekends and long weekends.
After the Ferry
45-minute coastal drive to Halfmoon Bay
Turn left from the Langdale terminal and follow Highway 101 north. The drive follows the coast — ocean views most of the way. Villa Sol is approximately 45 minutes from the terminal.

Drive to Horseshoe Bay
Take Highway 1 west to Exit 0 (Horseshoe Bay). Follow signs to BC Ferries terminal. Allow 30–45 minutes from downtown Vancouver depending on traffic.
Board the Langdale ferry
45-minute crossing. Arrive at terminal 30–45 min before departure. Vehicle reservations recommended for weekends.
Drive north on Highway 101
From Langdale ferry terminal, turn left onto Highway 101. Follow the coast north approximately 45 minutes to Halfmoon Bay.

Exit the terminal, turn left
As you leave the Langdale ferry terminal, turn left onto Highway 101 heading north toward Sechelt and Halfmoon Bay.
Pass through Gibsons and Sechelt
Follow Highway 101 through both towns. You'll pass ocean views, small galleries, and coffee spots if you want to stop. Sechelt is roughly halfway.
Continue north to Halfmoon Bay
After Sechelt, continue north on Highway 101 approximately 20 minutes to Halfmoon Bay. Watch for the Secret Cove area — Villa Sol is shortly after.

Rental car or taxi/rideshare to Horseshoe Bay
Allow 45–60 minutes from YVR to Horseshoe Bay terminal depending on traffic. Cross the Lions Gate Bridge or use the Massey Tunnel route.
Horseshoe Bay to Langdale ferry
45-minute crossing. Check bcferries.com for current schedules. Pre-book your vehicle reservation — especially important for weekends.
Coastal drive to Halfmoon Bay
45 minutes north on Highway 101 from Langdale terminal. Scenic coastal route — ocean mostly visible on the left heading north.

Rental car is the easiest option. Rideshare to the ferry, then taxi or prearranged transfer on the Sunshine Coast is also possible — ask us for recommendations.

Book your ferry earlyVehicle reservations on the Horseshoe Bay–Langdale route sell out quickly on summer weekends and long weekends. Book at bcferries.com as soon as your dates are confirmed. Walk-on passengers don't need reservations but should still arrive early.

Packing for the coastThe Sunshine Coast has its own microclimate — warmer and drier than Vancouver in summer, but bring a layer for evenings. Good walking shoes for the shoreline. A swimsuit for the thermal circuit. Everything else the property provides.

Fill up before the ferryGas is available on the Sunshine Coast but can be pricier than in Vancouver. Fill your tank at Horseshoe Bay or before you leave the city. There's a station in Sechelt on the drive if needed — about halfway from the terminal.

Stock up in SecheltSechelt has a grocery store, liquor store, and several restaurants — it's roughly halfway between Langdale and Villa Sol. If you want provisions for your stay, this is the place to stop. Halfmoon Bay has limited services.

Download maps offlineCell service can be spotty in parts of the Sunshine Coast, including sections of the coastal drive. Download your Google Maps route offline before you leave. Your booking confirmation includes written turn-by-turn directions as a backup.
